Decoding Metallica

Most singers and bands sing about love and romance and many of them sing about how much money they have, especially if they're hip hop singers, but Metallica doesn't sing about romance and they don't sing about wealth. Metallica sings about death in their music and they like to display death on their albums. Death seems to be the main theme of Metallica and to them they make it clear that death is liberation and that the material body is a prison. This theme keeps coming up again and in Metallicas songs. Metallica has the death and resurrection theme that most religions, especially Christianity, have and Metallica and religions don't define life as being the material body, they define life as being the spirit and anyone who lives by the body and not the spirit is dead. You can call such people the living dead. Metallica plays a scene from the end of the movie, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, before every concert they do. This scene shows a man running through a graveyard in search of treasure that he's looking for and he receives that treasure after hanging from a noose, which is symbolic of death and resurrection. The music that's playing in this scene is called Ecstasy of Gold:

Metallica finds this scene with its accompanying music inspiring and the reason they show this before every concert they do is because this scene is a metaphor for death and rebirth and there is treasure in death. This scene matches the overall theme of Metallicas music, which is about death and how it brings freedom. Metallica even made their own version of this song.

These album covers show the obsession with death that Metallica has.

The album, Master of Puppets, shows hands controlling the stings but the strange thing is that these hands aren't controlling puppets, they are controlling the dead. The message here is that the people being controlled are spiritually dead. The movie called They Live means that the elites live and the people they control are dead.

Metallicas album, Death Magnetic, has a straightforward meaning. A magnet is something that attracts and mixing this meaning with the coffin and the graveyard means that death is attractive. The image on the bottom left shows a coffin shaped magnet with metal filings showing the magnetic field. The image on the bottom right shows a magnetic crane, which is used for picking up cars, over a graveyard.

The coffin over the eye in the first picture from the Death Magnetic album represents his third eye and his spirit are dead and he is in a state of death, the lyric that's emphasized on this picture is, "I blind my eyes", which means death is blindness. The coffin in the second picture is over a bright source of light and this represents that death of the body is light. This is the only coffin that doesn't have metal filings surrounding it, it is not magnetic and not attractive. Spiritual death is attractive and spiritual life is not attractive.

In this picture a man is having a nightmare and he has a coffin next to him. This represents his life is a dream and he is having a nightmare in it, but this dream is spiritual death as well and that is why the coffin is connected with the nightmare. The lyric that's emphasized is, "You crawl back in but your luck runs out." Crawling back in refers to crawling back into the body and the dream and there is no luck in it. In the second picture there is a coffin next to the fetus, which represents that birth in the physical body is spiritual death.

In this video James Hetfield makes it clear that he believes in a higher power. He has tattoos on his arm, which has the all seeing eye above an angel on it. The all seeing eye is used by occultists to represent God. His statements in this video and his tattoos show what his beliefs are and what Metallica is about.

Unforgiven.

New blood joins this earth
And quickly he's subdued

Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules (The boy learns the rules of the system and its leaders and to be part of it.)

With time the child draws in (The boy draws into this world more and more over time and becomes part of it).
This whipping boy done wrong (The whipping boy was someone who would be punished for the bad behavior of a prince).
Deprived of all his thoughts (The boy is deprived of his memory of who he was and he is deprived of his independant thinking).
The young man struggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own
That never from this day
His will they'll take away-eay (The system and the elites take his free will away and they replace it with their will).

Chorus:

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me (He's not free because he's not himself, he's not his soul).
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN (He's unforgiven because he's not himself, that is the mystical view of what unforgiven means).

They dedicate their lives
To RUNNING all of his (The elites are dedicated to controlling people their whole lives).
He tries to please THEM all (The man oppresses himself by pleasing the system).
This bitter man he is
Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully (The man is going to die regretfully because he's wasted his life serving the elites and not being himself).
That old man here is me

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN

(instrumental)

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN

whoa, whoa

Never Free
Never Me
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN
You labeled me
I'll label you
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN
Never Free
Never Me
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN
You labeled me
I'll label you (People in their state of spiritual ignorance will label each other according to which group they belong to).
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN
Never Free
Never Me
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN

When the song says, "New blood joins this earth", it shows the boy going down the steps and into the room where he will spend the rest of his life. This represents the soul going from above and descending into the world and going into the body.

The picture that covers the tunnel to the room, where the boy will spend his life, represents the face of the body as well as the physical identity of the person. This face will fall off at the end of the boy's life, which represents the physical body falling away.

Unforgiven 2.

The first Unforgiven music video was about the spirit spending all its life in a room, which represents the body, and the spirit digs its way out at the end of the persons life. The Unforgiven 2 is referring to the Book of Genesis and it features snakes and the wall that his hand is stuck in turning into a woman.

Lay beside me, tell me what they've done
Speak the words I wanna hear, to make my demons run
The door is locked now, but it's opened if you're true (This is the door to Heaven, it can be opened if you become your true self or the spirit.)
If you can understand the me, then I can understand the you

Lay beside me, under wicked sky
Black of day, dark of night, we share this pair of lives
The door cracks open, but there's no sun shining through
Black heart scarring darker still, but there's no sun shining through (The Sun represents God or the spirit.)
No, there's no sun shining through
No, there's no sun shining

[Chorus]
What I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn to stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you?

Yeah
What I've felt, what I've known
Sick and tired, I stand alone
Could you be there, 'cause I'm the one who waits for you
Or are you unforgiven too?

Come lay beside me, this won't hurt I swear
She loves me not, she loves me still, but she'll never love again
She lay beside me, but she'll be there when I'm gone
Black heart scarring darker still, yes she'll be there when I'm gone
Yes she'll be there when I'm gone
Dead sure she'll be there

[Chorus]
What I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn to stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you?

What I've felt, what I've known
Sick and tired, I stand alone
Could you be there, cause I'm the one who waits for you
Or are you unforgiven too?

[Solo]

Lay beside me, tell me what I've done
The door is closed, so are your eyes
But now I see the sun, now I see the sun
Yes, now I see it

[Chorus]
What I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn to stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you

What I've felt, what I've known
So sick and tired, I stand alone
Could you be there, cause I'm the one who waits
The one who waits for you

Oh, what I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, just turn to stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you

(Background) So I dub thee Unforgiven.

Oh, what I've felt
Oh, what I've known

I take this key (never free)
And I bury it (never me) in you
Because you're unforgiven too! (The key, which is used in the first Unforgiven music video, is used in this video as well. The fact that this key is buried in the woman maybe referring to the Book of Genesis and the key gets buried by polarization.)

Never free
Never me
Because you're unforgiven too.. (He repeats the same lines, "Never free Never me", as he sang in the first Unforgiven music video. But this time its connected with the polarization of the sexes.)
Oo-Oh-Oo

One.

This music video from Metallica shows a man who is completely crippled, he is deaf blind, has no arms or legs, he has no sensation or anything else. The name of this song is called One, why was this video about someone who is crippled in everyway called One? No one, including any Metallica fans have figured this out, but this song is a metaphor. In numerology the number one represents the spirit, God and the One. So this song is saying that the spirit or the true self is crippled, deaf, blind, has no sensations and can't do anything else. Everyone in the world who has not woken up is like this very crippled man. The statements made by the crippled man in the music video are from the soul. This is one of the statements that is significant, "I don't know whether I'm alive or dreaming or dead and remembering. How can you tell what's a dream and what's real when you can't even tell when you're awake and when you're asleep." The lyrics to this song are clearly referring to the crippled soul.

I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel the scream
This terrible silence stops it there

Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there's not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now

Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please god, help me

Back in the womb it's much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can't look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I'll live

Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me

Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please god, wake me (The term waking up in mysticism and in The Matrix refers to the soul or the true self waking up and rediscovering who it was. God can help him by waking him.)

Now the world is gone I'm just one (This maybe a cryptic statement. If you remove the material world and your material identity you become one or the spirit.)
Oh god, help me

Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please god, help me (He keeps begging God to help him in this song.)

Darkness imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell (Metallica and many other people see the body as a prison where people are trapped all their lives, especially if they are ignorant of themselves.)

Landmines has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

The wall that his hand is buried in starts having snakes emerging from it. This is a reference to the serpent from the Book of Genesis and this wall turns into a woman, which means polarization that blocks out the light of God. Snakes are also used in the music video called Enter Sandman, but in that video the snakes are connected with the fall into the dreamworld or the Matrix.

The wall turns into a woman, which symbolizes that polarization is a barrier to the light.

The hand that has been buried in the wall has a key in it, which is buried in the woman.

Enter Sandman

The theme of this song is being asleep or ignorance of the true self and being in an illusion or dreamworld that's full of horror. This theme is from the teachings of mystical societies and matches the theme of The Matrix movie.

Say your prayers little one
Don`t forget my son (Is this referring to Jesus?)
To include everyone
I tuck you in
walk within (What does walk within mean? Does he mean walk within the body? The next line saids, "Keep you free from sin", does this refer to God?)
Keep you free from sin
'til the sandman he comes (The sandman is the one who makes the spirit forget itself and puts it into the illusion or the dreamworld of the material world. This child is free from sin till he forgets about himself and moves into the material world.)

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never never-land (The light is the spirit world or the Kingdom of Heaven and the night is the material world or ignorance. In the Peter Pan story, never-land is a good place but in this song never-land is a world of horror.)

Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of Snow White
Dreams of war
Dreams of liars
Dreams of dragons fire
And of things that will bite, yeah

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
take my hand
We're off to never never-land

(whisper)
Now I lay me down to sleep (x2)
Pray the lord my soul to keep (x2)
If I die before I wake (x2)
Pray the lord my soul to take (x2)

Hush little baby don't say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
It's just the beasts under your bed
In your closet and in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter Night
Take my hand!
We're off to never never-land

Yeah, ha ha ha

Boom

Yeah, yeah
oh, whoa

We're off to never never-land

Take my hand
We're off to never never-land
Take my hand
We're off to never never-land

We're off to never never-land

The first scene in this music video shows a ring with the image of the skull on it. This song is about death like most of the other ones.

There are scenes showing the man falling in connection with the Sandman. This combines the metaphors of sleep, which in a mystical sense is about the soul sleeping while it's in the body and the Fall of Man in Genesis.

There are various scenes of falling throughout the music video. This scene shows falling off a building into the bed. This scene represents the Fall of Man, or falling into the dreamworld or the Matrix, which is the physical world.

Snakes start appearing on the boy while he is asleep and in the dream world. This maybe a reference to the serpent in the Book of Genesis. It is connected with the Fall of Man into the world that we have today. This is the dreamworld full of horror that this song is about.

The bed in this scene represents the dreamworld, physical world or the Matrix and the truck represents all the horrors, pain and suffering that this world has.

Fade to Black

I've included this song because it has a great poem, which sums up the state of being that most people are in. The more fleshy someone is and the more ignorant they are of themselves the more miserable they will be. Fade to Black is referring to death and how liberating it is and he is lamenting the loss of himself in his body.

Life, it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself (This is referring to the spirit getting lost withing the body and it drifts further and further away from consciousness everyday.)
Nothing matters, no one else

I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free (Metallica defines death as being freedom for the soul, which has been trapped in the body.)

Things not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me (This is a very important line, "Missing one inside of me". This means missing the spirit inside the body, this happens when someone becomes too fleshy and is ignorant of who he was.)
Deathly lost, this can't be real
Can't stand this hell I feel

Emptiness is filling me (He's empty of the spirit or himself.)
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now he's gone (This is a great mystical line, this is definately referring to the spirit or the true self. He used to be himself but now he is ignorant of who he was and this is what is causing the Hell he feels.)

No one but me can save myself, but it's too late (No person or organization is going to save you but yourself and don't leave it too late.)
Now I can't think, think why I should even try

Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye, *Goodbye* (For most people death is the only way to gain freedom from the body and the world.)

Sad But True

This song sounds like he's talking about the devil controlling his life, but it also sounds like it's a discourse between the body and the soul and how the body can take complete control over the soul and control the persons life.

Hey I’m your life
I’m the one who takes you there
Hey I’m your life
I’m the one who cares
They, They betray
I’m your only true friend now
They, They’ll betray
I’m forever there

I’m your dream, make you real (The mystics and the Matrix identify this world as a dream and the flesh is the dream that is speaking here.)
I’m your eyes when you must steal (The flesh is the thing that compels people to steal and commit other crimes.)
I’m your pain when you can’t feel (The spirit is asleep and is crippled in every way like the song One is about, the pain that people feel is the pain that the flesh feel.)
Sad but true

I’m your dream, mind astray (The body and the world is the dream and the mind is astray from the spiritual consciousness.)
I’m your eyes while you’re away (This is talking about the physical eyes and the spirit is away from consciousness.)
I’m your pain while you repay
You know it’s sad but true, sad but true

You, You’re my mask (This seems to be the spirit or the true self talking now. The bodies face is the mask over the true self.)
You’re my cover, my shelter (The body is the cover for the spirit in the physical world.)
You, You’re my mask
You’re the one who’s blamed
Do, Do my work
Do my dirty work, scapegoat
Do, Do my deeds
For you’re the one who’s shamed (These lines are saying that the body gets blamed for the bad deeds of the individual. A lot of the time the flesh is responsible for making people do bad things and hurting others because people can't control themselves.)

I’m your dream, make you real
I’m your eyes when you must steal
I’m your pain when you can’t feel
Sad but true

I’m your dream, mind astray
I’m your eyes while you’re away
I’m your pain while you repay
You know it’s sad but true, sad but true

I'm your dream,
I'm your eyes,
I'm your pain

I'm your dream
I'm your eyes
I'm your pain

You know it's sad but true

Hate, I’m your hate
I’m your hate when you want love (This is the flesh talking, the flesh is what causes people to hate because of the polarized consciousness, which causes tension and seperation. The spirit doesn't hate because it is unified.)
Pay, Pay the price
Pay for nothing’s fair

Hey, I’m your life
I’m the one who took you there
Hey, I’m your life
And I no longer care (This is the spirit talking back.)

I’m your dream, make you real
I’m your eyes when you must steal
I’m your pain when you can’t feel
Sad but true

I’m your truth, telling lies
I’m your reasoned alibis
I’m inside open your eyes
I’m you

Sad but true

The day that never comes

This song is comparing souls in the body to being soldiers that are lost and need to be rescued. The day that never comes is referring to referring to God and the spirit that never comes.

Born to push you around
You better just stay down
You pull away, he hits the flesh
You hit the ground (This is talking about soul being down and falling).

Mouths so full of lies
Tend to black your eyes
Just keep them closed
Keep praying, just keep waiting

Waiting for the one (One in numerology is the spirit).
The day that never comes
When you stand up and feel the warmth
But the sunshine never comes, no
No, the sunshine never comes (The day and sunshine mean God and the spirit. He is waiting for God and he doesn't come).

Push you cross that line
Just stay down this time
Hiding yourself, crawling yourself (Hiding yourself means hiding your soul).
You'll have your time

God, I'll make them pay
Take it back one day
I'll end this day
I'll splatter color on this grave

Waiting for the one
The day that never comes
When you stand up and feel the warmth
But the sunshine never comes

Love is a four letter word
And never spoken here (Love doesn't  exist here).
Love is a four letter word
Here in this prison (The prison is this world, the flesh and ignorance of the soul).

I suffer this no longer
I'll put it into this I swear
This I swear the sun will shine (One day they will experience the light of the spirit).
This I swear, this I swear
This I swear!

Wherever I may roam

(And the road becomes my bride)

And the road becomes my bride
I have stripped of all but pride
So in her I do confide
And she keeps me satisfied
Gives me all I need

And with dust in throat I crave
Only knowledge will I save (Knowledge of the soul is salvation).
To the game you stay a slave (The game is this world and society).

Rover, wanderer
Nomad, vagabond
Call me what you will

But I'll take my time anywhere
Free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll redefine anywhere

Anywhere I roam
Where I lay my head is home

(And the earth becomes my throne)

And the earth becomes my throne
I adapt to the unknown
Under wandering stars I've grown
By myself but not alone (He has his soul or himself, that's why he's not alone).
I ask no one

And my ties are severed clean (His ties to this world are severed).
Less I have the more I gain (The less of this world he has the more of himself he has. The less of the illusion he has, the more reality he has).
Off the beaten path I reign (Off the beaten path means off the worldly path everyone else travels on).

Rover, wanderer
Nomad, vagabond
Call me what you will
Yeah, you wi-i-i-ill

But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
and I'll take my time anywhere

Anywhere I roam
Where I lay my head is home
heh-yeah

But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind
And I'll take my time anywhere

Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home
That's right

But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll redefine anywhere

Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home

Carved upon my stone
My body lies, but still I roam, (His body is dead, but he's alive. These two lines show what this song is about. His soul is free from the body and the world and he has freedom).
Yeah yeah!

Wherever I may roam
Wherever I may roam
Woah

Wherever I may roam
Wherever I may roam
Yeah!

Wherever I may wander, wander, wander
Wherever I may roam

Yeah, yeah, wherever I may roam

Yeah, yeah, wherever I may roam
Wherever I may roam
Wherever I may roam

All Nightmare Long

The name All nightmare long is referring to the dream of the Matrix that's referred to in mysticism and the occult, but this dreamworld is a nightmare and it is populated by those who are dead with a government that turned everyone into zombies in order to take over their world.

In this music video Metallica combines the subject of chemtrails with the theme of zombies. This music video shows a foreign power using a biological weapon to turn people in America into zombies and that helps them to invade the country. They use chemtrails, with Barium and Arsenic, to exterminate the zombies they created. In real life the elites have dumbed down and zombified the people in America as well as the West in general, with various methods, such as vaccines, TV, chemical exposure, junk food, drugs, both prescription and illicit, consumerism etc, to make them more subserviant and less likely to resist. This music video shows that zombies are metphors for the dumbed down people, like with Hollywood movies such as the Dawn of the Dead. There are two definitions of a zombie, the first definition is someone who is an unquestioning servant of a system, whether it's a political party, ideology, religion etc. These zombies are hell bent on making everyone else just like them and that is why zombies like to consume other people, in an intellectual and spiritual sense. The second definition of a zombie is someone who operates primarily by base instincts. The second kind of zombie only lives according to their base instincts. These zombies don't care about anything if it doesn't appeal to their base instincts, which includes, materialism, sex, power, tribalistic activities such as sport, food, possessivness. Things like art, culture, music, innovation, logic, reason, compassion etc, are not attributes of this kind of zombie, they only care about things which are based on survival. The first kind of zombie is spiritually dead, but the second kind of zombie is someone who is both mentally and spiritually dead. Inmortal

Luck. Runs. Out.
Crawl from the wreckage one more time
Horrific memory twists the mind
Dark, rutted, cold and hard to turn
Path of destruction, feel it burn
Still life
Incarnation
Still life
Infamy

Hallucination
Heresy
Still you run, what's to come?
What's to be?

'Cause we hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long
Feel us breathe upon your face
Feel us shift, every move we trace
Hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long, yeah
Luck. Runs.

I can crawl back in
But your luck runs out

Luck. Runs. Out.

The light that is not light is here
To push you out with your own fear
You hide, you hide, you´ll be found
Release your breath without a sound

Still life
Immolation
Still life
Infamy

Hallucination
Heresy
Still you run, what's to come?
What's to be?

'Cause we hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long
Feel us breathe upon your face
Feel us shift, every move we trace
Hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long, yeah
Luck. Runs.

I can crawl back in
But your luck runs out

Then you crawl back in
Into your obsession
Never to return
This is your confession

Hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long
Feel us breathe upon your face
Feel us shift, every move we trace
Hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long, yeah
Luck. Runs.

You can crawl back in
But your luck runs out

Your luck runs out

Sanitarium.

This song is saying that the Earth is a sanitarium for the soul, that is what Metallica is singing about here.

Welcome to where time stands still
No one leaves and no one will
Moon is full, never seems to change
Just labeled mentally deranged
Dream the same thing every night
I see our freedom in my sight
No locked doors, no windows barred
No things to make my brain seem scarred

Sleep, my friend, and you will see
The dream is my reality (These two lines give away what this song is about. What he sees as his reality is a Matrix dream).
They keep me locked up in this cage
Can't they see it's why my brain says “rage" (The cage is his body and the dreamworld. The elites of this world, or sanitarium, are the ones who keep him locked up in the cage).

Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone (He wants to be free of the world or the sanitarium).

Build my fear of what's out there
Cannot breathe the open air
Whisper things into my brain
Assuring me that I'm insane
They think our heads are in their hands
But violent use brings violent plans
Keep him tied, it makes him well
He's getting better, can't you tell? (These lines are about how the elites control peoples minds and how that keeps them prisoners in this sanitarium for the soul).

No more can they keep us in
Listen, damn it, we will win
They see it right, they see it well
But they think this saves us from our hell (These lines are about breaking free from their mind control).

Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone
Sanitarium

Just leave me alone

Fear of living on
Natives getting restless now
Mutiny in the air
Got some death to do (Death is a liberation from this sanitarium. This line gives away that this song is talking about the soul).
Mirror stares back hard
kill is such a friendly word
seems the only way
for reaching out again

Ride The Lightning

Guilty as charged
But damn it, it ain't right
There's someone else controlling me
Death in the air
Strapped in the electric chair
This can't be happening to me

Who made you God to say?,
I'll take your life from you

Flash before my eyes
Now it's time to die
Burning in my brain
I can feel the pain
Wait for the sign
To flick the switch of death
It's the beginning of the end
Sweat, chilling cold
As I watch death unfold
Consciousness my only friend

My fingers grip with fear
What am I doing here?

Flash before my eyes
Now it's time to die
Burning in my brain
I can feel the pain

Someone help me
Oh please, God help me
They're trying to take it all away
I don't want to die

(SOLO)

Someone help me
Oh please, God help me
They are trying to take it all away
I don`t want to die

Time moving slow
The minutes seem like hours
The final curtain call I see
Im through with this
Just get it over with
If this is true, just let it be

Wakened by a horrid scream
Freed from this frightening dream (This line is why I added this song here, it reveals that this song is about the material world and that it is a dream like The Matrix movie portrayed and that Gnosticism talks about. This song repeats the recurring theme in Metallicas songs that death is liberation from the prison of ignorance and the material body and world.)

Flash before my eyes
Now it's time to die
Burning in my brain
I can feel the pain

Nothing Else Matters

This song is quite positive compared to all the other songs that Metallica has done but it still maintains the overall theme of Metallica, which is about death, liberation of the spirit from the material body and world and the fact that most people are trapped in an illusion and they need to resurrect their true selves. Most of Metallicas songs are about lamenting the loss of the soul in the material body and in the world and the pain and horrors that ignorance of the true self brings. But this song is about becoming the true self again and waking up to who you were before you became ignorant in your body and living in the illusion of the material world.

So close no matter how far (Everyone is connected to each other and to God, separation is an illusion.)
Couldn't be much more from the heart (This is coming from the bottom of his heart, which means he is very serious in this song.)
Forever trusting who we are (He's talking about trusting the true self and not the artificial identity and the worldly authorities who created it and control your life because of it.)
And nothing else matters (Nothing that's of the material world or the illusion matters, the only things that matter are God, love and the true self.)

Never opened myself this way (This is rediscovery, resurrection or opening up of the soul and becoming it again. Most people don't open themselves up but some people do and it is a new thing to experience and that's what this line means.)
Life is ours, we live it our way (Your in charge of your own life, it shouldn't be controlled by anyone else, think for yourself.)
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view (Be open minded and get outside the box that the world and the elites have created to get a new perception of reality.)
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know, whoa
But I know (These two lines are great, don't care about what the knowledge of the world, the education system, the media, religion, political parties, ideologies etc, have given you, when you gain knowledge of your true self and remove the programming and illusions that you have been given you will know.)

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know, whoa
but I know

I never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
I'd never cared for what they do
I'd never cared for what they know
And I know

Yeah!

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Death is not the end.

Man in black comes around (Sounds like the Grim Reaper.)
Blacks the light
Blacks the sound
Far enough to take from here
To rise above the myth of fear (Fear doesn't exist in the spirit. Fear is part of the base instincts and you will rise above it in spirit. Fear is an illusion and that is why Metallica calls it "the myth of fear".)
Lay you out, and take 'em down

Open up your gate
Spirit dialate
Watch the falling sand (This is referring to sand from the hourglass, which represents time.)
Sifting through his hand (This is the sandman from Enter Sandman.)
Open Up Your Gate
Spirit Dialate
Whisper To Your Friend
Death Is Not The End!

Not the End
Not the End
Its the beginning
It’s a…

Rob the hour, loss of time
Spilling sand you will not find (There's no time outside the physical world. That's why it says "Rob the hours, loss of time". "Spilling sand you will not find" means there's no hourglass or time when someone has died.)
Dearly beloved
We gathered today
to say goodbye and find our way
Bid farewell with closing eyes

Open Up Your Gate
Spirit Dialate
Watch the falling sand
Slipping through his hand
Open Up Your Gate
Spirit Dialate
Whisper to your friend
Death Is Not The End!

Not the End
Not the End
its the begining

Ive been a rambler, the light sets me free
Ive been a gambler, the light sets me free (The light of the spirit is freedom.)

The light sets me free!!!!

*Guitar Solo*

Yeah!

Ive been a rambler, the light sets me free
ive been a gambler, the light sets me free

Sets me free

Haha!

Done my time in this cell (Metallica is comparing the body to a prison cell and death is freedom from it.)
Accept the toll of the man
Man of black has turned to light (Black may refer to something invisible.)
Shall return for you tonight
Say goodbye to our old selves (This line is obvious. Old selves refers to the body and the way you see yourself and your physical identity in this world.)

Open up your gate
Spirit dialate
Watch the falling sand
Slipping through his hand
Open Up Your Gate
Spirit Dialate
Whisper to your friends
Death Is Not The End!

Not the End
Not the End
its the begining

Death is not the end!

To live is to die.

To live is to die is saying that death is life. The mystics and occultists do not define anything physical as being life, only the spirit is life. There's only a few lyrics in this long song, but they are full of meaning. This passage from The Apocryphon of James, 6:1-15, in the Nag Hammadi Library is relevant to what this song is about , "The Lord answered and said, "Verily, I say unto you, none will be saved unless they believe in my cross. But those who have believed in my cross, theirs is the kingdom of God. Therefore, become seekers for death, like the dead who seek for life; for that which they seek is revealed to them. And what is there to trouble them? As for you, when you examine death, it will teach you election. Verily, I say unto you, none of those who fear death will be saved; for the kingdom belongs to those who put themselves to death."

When a man lies he murders
Some part of the world
These are the pale deaths
Which men miscall their lives
All this I cannot bear
To witness any longer
Cannot the kingdom of salvation
Take me home (Salvation is about coming home to where you used to be before you came into the body. That was the original meaning of the word salvation).

Orion.

Orion represents the ancient Egyptian god Osiris and it was a very important constellation to the Egyptians. Osiris is the god of death, the underworld and he was associated with resurrection and rebirth. His skin is the color green, the color of plants, which means the cycles of nature, where new life comes after a desolate dry period. Metallica's overall theme is death and that is why they did this song honoring Osiris and the constellation Orion.
