The Vril.

The word Vril is from an early science fiction book called The Coming Race by Edward Bulward Lytton in 1871. It is about an unnamed traveler, who's the main character, who explores a mine with an engineer and stumbles on an advanced underground civilisation whose power comes from their ability to tap into a mysterious force that is called the Vril. This race is called the "Vril-ya" and they resemble angels, who have angelic power because of this Vril power.

Their angelic appearance denotes the fact that they are superior to regular humans and it is their ability to tap into the Vril which allows that. The underground place for this civilisation could be a metaphor to the subconscious mind where great power is hidden in. It Man could tap into this higher mind and the energy which powers it, it could enable him to become much more powerful and advanced that what he is now.

Occultists such as Helena Blavatsky, William Scott Elliot and Rudolf Steiner were fans of this book and treated it like it had a lot of truths in it.

The idea of the Vril, even though it's a made up word and based on a fictional story, is based on real religious and occult beliefs that there is an underlying ethereal energy in the Universe that can be tapped into and make people healthier and stronger. This energy goes by various names such as Tao, Prana, Chi, Orgone, Ether etc. This is an energy that isn't converted from one form to another, like electricity is. For example, coal is burned, the heat turns water into steam, the steam turns the turbines, that electricity is stepped up and passed along power lines, then stepped back down and goes into whatever device it enters in the home and turned into whatever the devices needs to be done. Those are examples of how energy is converted from one form to another. This ethereal energy isn't converted, it just is.

In the Tao Te Ching there is a good description of how this energy field flows from high to low, "Man takes his law from the Earth; the Earth takes its law from Heaven; Heaven takes its law from the Tao. The law of the Tao is its being what it is."

Those who can tap into and make use of this highest law will become supreme beings.

This is a description of the Vril from The Coming Race, "Therewith Zee began to enter into an explanation of which I understood very little, for there is no word in any language I know which is an exact synonym for vril. I should call it electricity, except that it comprehends in its manifold branches other forces of nature, to which, in our scientific nomenclature, differing names are assigned, such as magnetism, galvanism, &c. These people consider that in vril they have arrived at the unity in natural energetic agencies, which has been conjectured by many philosophers above ground, and which Faraday thus intimates under the more cautious term of correlation:- "I have long held an opinion," says that illustrious experimentalist, "almost amounting to a conviction, in common, I believe, with many other lovers of natural knowledge, that the various forms under which the forces of matter are made manifest, have one common origin; or, in other words, are so directly related and mutually dependent that they are convertible, as it were into one another, and possess equivalents of power in their action." These subterranean philosophers assert that by one operation of vril, which Faraday would perhaps call 'atmospheric magnetism,' they can influence the variations of temperature- in plain words, the weather; that by operations, akin to those ascribed to
mesmerism, electro-biology, odic force, &c., but applied scientifically, through vril conductors, they can exercise influence over minds, and bodies animal and vegetable, to an extent not surpassed in the romances of our mystics. To all such agencies they give the common name of vril."

It's interesting that the Vril is described as being a unity of all natural forces, which is a major feature of so many occult practices of creating unity. This energy emanates from the center of the Universe, which is described on this page. In Alchemy the fifth element, or the Quintessence, is a unity between the four elements. Andrew Chumbly, in the book Aoeztia called this energy the First Sun and in the occult, it's called the Black Sun, "In the Point of the First Sun I stand - the Sum of mine Immateriality the Potentiality of its Kingdom." The point of the First Sun is the dot in the circle, or the axis of the Universe and that is where Man should position himself. Here's another passage from Aoeztia talking about the First Sun, "I am He that standeth at the Cross'd Roads of the High Sabbat of the Ages,
the Man wrought in the Forge of the First Sun." The crossed roads were explained on the paged called The Axis of the Universe.

The Vril was mentioned by Desmond Leslie in the book, Flying Saucers Have Landed, "‘But the all interesting question is that relating to the power by which they were propelled. In the earlier times it seems to have been personal ‘vril’ 27 that supplied the motive power—
whether used in conjunction with any mechanical contrivance matters not much—but in the later days this was replaced by a force which, though generated by in what is to us an unknown manner, operated nevertheless through definite mechanical arrangements. This force, though not yet discovered by science, more nearly approached that which Keely in America used to handle than the electric power used by Maxim. It was in fact of an etheric nature. But though we are no nearer to the solution of the problem, its method of operation can be described. The mechanical arrangements no doubt differed somewhat in different vessels. 27 ‘Vril’ or the raising of the personal vibrations sufficiently to overcome the Earth’s magnetic attraction, the principle of levitation.

Another part in Flying Saucers Have Landed is a quote from Madam Blavatsky, "It is just because Keely’s discovery would lead to knowledge of one of the most occult secrets, a secret which can never be allowed to fall into the hands of the masses, that failure to push his discovery to its logical conclusions seems certain to Occultists... the results obtained from the fifth and sixth planes of the Etheric or Astral Force will never be permitted to serve for purposes of commerce and traffic.’ The Secret Doctrine goes on to confirm what I had already-guessed—an easy guess: ‘If the question is asked why Mr. Keely was not allowed to pass a certain limit, the answer is easy; it was because what he had discovered was the terrible sidereal Force known to, and named by, the Atlanteans Mash-Mak and by the Aryan Rishis in their Astra Vidya by a name that we do not care to give. It is the Vril of Bulwer Lytton’s Coming Race and of the coming races of our mankind. The name Vril may be a fiction; the Force itself is a fact, since it is mentioned in all the secret books.’ The Secret Doctrine, Vol. II, Adyar Edition."

George Adamski in his book Inside The Spaceships describes the Universe as being filled with an energy field that the craft he was in was tapping into, "It was fascinating to watch the behavior of these tiny particles of matter on the screen. There was a constant swirling activity. Sometimes the fine matter would seem to condense into the semblance of a solid body, only to disappear and revert to practical invisibility. Occasionally, these formations became so rarefied and fine that they seemed almost to have been transmuted into pure gases. In a way, it reminded me of little white clouds suddenly forming in a clear sky, perhaps to grow larger, then as quickly to disappear into nothingness. This, at least, is the best analogy I can draw in describing the activity I witnessed on these screens. Yet, with each formation of particle bodies, certain quantities of energy seemed actually to take visible, solid form, then immediately again be dissipated by what seemed an explosion or sudden disintegration, plainly visible on the screens. Other instruments recorded intensity and composition. Sometimes these accretions formed with great intensity and the ensuing “explosion” was equally violent. At other times they were very mild and barely detectable. But the cycle was ceaseless; whirling energy, solidification, disintegration; a perpetual motion of energy and fine matter ever seeking to combine or react with other particles in space. I use the term “energy” because I can think of no other word for what I was observing. It seemed to contain great power, and I noticed that when gathering into a sheetlike formation or cloudlike
body, it appeared to disturb everything near it in space. I believe that I actually witnessed the very force that pervades all space, from which planets, suns and galaxies are formed; the same force that is the supporter and sustainer of all activity and life throughout the Universe. As this realization began to dawn upon me, I seemed unable to do more than half accept the tremendous implications. Zuhl, sensing my inner bewilderment, smiled affirmatively and said, “Yes. And this is the same power that propels our ships through space."

The beings that were featured in The Coming Race are superior because of their ability to tap into the Vril and their society was on a much higher level because of it. This idea is reflected in the Tao Te Ching as well, "In the highest antiquity, (the people) did not know that there were (their rulers). In the next age they loved them and praised them. In the next they feared them; in the next they despised them. Thus it was that when faith (in the Tao) was deficient (in the rulers) a want of faith in them ensued (in the people)." The lower people are in terms of spirituality and the further away they are from the source, the worse their governments and societies are and the more chains people have around them.
